An Evening with Illustrator Richard Cowdrey
Richard Cowdrey’s favorite things to draw and paint are the things that reflect the awesomeness of God and his creation. From vast landscapes to the littlest bug on a leaf, Richard marvels at the beauty in the details. Richard's bestselling children's books include Fiona the Hippo, Legend of the Candy Cane, Bad Dog, Marley and A Very Marley Christmas. About Fiona Helps a Friend: Join Fiona, everyone’s favorite hippo, and her lovable animal friends as they try to help Matilda find her missing laugh. This fun and whimsical follow-up to the New York Times bestselling Fiona the Hippo is the perfect read-aloud for fans of Fiona (and hippos) everywhere! Fiona cannot figure out why the zoo seems so quiet as she wanders around, saying hello to all her friends. When she realizes she hasn’t heard Matilda the Kookaburra’s laughter in a while, Fiona and the other animals set out to find the missing laugh—and run right into a wonderful box of lost and found items. Their search turns into a dress-up party filled with laughter—and a great idea on how to get Matilda’s laugh back! Join us for very special evening with Richard Cowdrey, followed by a Q&A. The event will be hosted by Denise Phillips of Gathering Volumes in Perrysburg, OH. Presented on Thursday, July 8th, 2021 at 7:00 PM CT

Christina Clancy in Convo with J Ryan Stradal
Christina Clancy is the author of The Second Home. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, The Sun Magazine and in various literary journals, including Glimmer Train, Pleiades and Hobart. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and lives in Madison, WI with her family. About Shoulder Season: A dazzling portrait of a young woman coming into her own, the youthful allure of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, and what we lose—and gain—when we leave home. The small town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is an unlikely location for a Playboy Resort, and nineteen-year old Sherri Taylor is an unlikely bunny. Growing up in neighboring East Troy, Sherri plays the organ at the local church and has never felt comfortable in her own skin. But when her parents die in quick succession, she leaves the only home she’s ever known for the chance to be part of a glamorous slice of history. In the winter of 1981, in a costume two sizes too small, her toes pinched by stilettos, Sherri joins the daughters of dairy farmers and factory workers for the defining experience of her life. Living in the “bunny hutch”—Playboy’s version of a college dorm—Sherri gets her education in the joys of sisterhood, the thrill of financial independence, the magic of first love, and the heady effects of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. But as spring gives way to summer, Sherri finds herself caught in a romantic triangle—and the tragedy that ensues will haunt her for the next forty years. Join us for very special in conversation between Christina Clancy and author of The Lager Queen Of Minnesota & Kitchens Of The Great Midwest, J Ryan Stradal, followed by a Q&A.
