Great Midwest Rep Night
Sunday, April 8, 2017, 7:00 pm-10:00 pm
Big Bricks, Chicago, IL
Sponsored by Baker & Taylor
Hosted by GLIBA and MIBA

Join us for the Great Midwest Rep Night , sponsored by Baker & Taylor and co-hosted by GLIBA and MIBA. Featuring an eclectic group of 10 sales reps presenting their forthcoming titles, this night will be both fun and informative, and give attendees a chance to relax, meet book industry colleagues, and stay informed about new books and authors to feature in the seasons to come.

While GLIBA and MIBA are hosting this event, and Baker & Taylor is sponsoring it, we have a special thank you to share with Javier Ramierz from the Book Table in Oak Park. He has hosted a successful rep night in Chicago for many years and has agreed to collaborate with us this time around. Thank you Javier!

Schedule
7:00-7:30 PM – Free drinks and dinner buffet. Welcome from MIBA and GLIBA and sponsorship information from B&T
7:30-8:20 PM – Round 1 of presentations
8:20-8:30 PM - Trivia questions and prize giveaways
8:30-9:20 PM - Round 2 of presentations
9:20-10:00 PM - Trivia questions, prize giveaways, and galley time

REP SELECTION
  • As much as we'd love to give every interested rep a spot, we need to cap participation at 10 reps in the interest of time. Reps will be chosen by our board and member booksellers based on criteria of their choice that will best serve their stores.

SEASON
  • Spring rep nights are typically organized to cover the seasons not covered by Heartland Fall Forum; ie, spring/summer
FEE
  • There is a fee of $100 per rep to help cover the cost of the night. Please let us know who to invoice.

FORMAT
  • The vision for this event is to learn about new titles AND have a good time, so keep your presentation lively and upbeat
  • Each rep will be given 10 minutes, so prepare accordingly
  • All attendees and reps will receive complimentary dinner and wine/beer
  • The event is sponsored by B&T, with B&T staff attending and sharing remarks to kick off the evening
  • Trivia: We're going to break up the evening with trivia questions. Please supply 1 trivia questions based on the titles/authors on your list (ie, create a question based on what you've presented that night, the authors' previous titles, random real-life questions inspired by the authors' books, etc.)
  • Trivia prizes: We can supply some prizes, but it's ideal if your publisher is willing to chip in. First editions, box sets, signed stock, etc, stuffed tote bag, etc. Prizes can be brought to the venue to or shipped to the winner after the event. We request one prize per rep
  • Creating your own handout of titles is mandatory. Email it to us by April 3 so we can create one big packet of titles for attendees
  • AV is available at the venue and we will create a powerpoint based on your selected titles

BOOKS/GALLEYS
Galleys/books: We hope you have galleys and/or books to share. We expect 60 booksellers. We hope you can arrange to bring books straight to the event, but if you need assistance, we're happy to receive shipments in advance and will bring books to the event.
