She lives in Chicago. ABOUT TO CLUTCH A RAZOR

A heist. A mission born of desperation. When someone in Dymitr’s family dies, he’s called back home for the Empty Night, a funeral rite intended to keep evil at bay. The secret Dymitr is keeping from them makes returning home downright dangerous, but if he wants to get his hands on a book of curses that might appease Baba Jaga’s blood lust, he has no choice. And when that same funeral brings Niko, a ferocious creature of legend, to town for his own bloody purposes, Dymitr’s charade becomes impossible to maintain. Family gatherings can be brutal. Dymitr’s might just be fatal. |

Chaon lives in Cleveland. ABOUT ONE OF US
A playfully macabre and utterly thrilling tale about orphaned twins on the run from their murderous uncle who find refuge in a bizarre travelling carnival, from one of the masters of literary horror It’s 1915 and the world is transforming, but for thirteen-year-old Bolt and Eleanor—twins so close they can literally read each other’s minds—life is falling apart. When their mother dies, they are forced to leave home under the care of a vicious con man who claims he’s their long-lost uncle Charlie, the only kin they have left. When, during a late-night poker game, one of his rages ends in murder, they decide to flee. Salvation arrives in the form of Mr. Jengling, founder of the Emporium of Wonders, and father to its many members. He adopts Bolt and Eleanor, and the twins travel by train across the vast, sometimes brutal American frontier with their new family, watching as the exhibitions spark amazement wherever they go. There’s Minnie the three-legged lady, and Dr. Chui who stands over seven feet tall; Thistle Britches, the clown with no nose, and Rosalie, who can foretell the death of anyone she meets. After a lifetime of having only each other, Eleanor and Bolt are finally part of something bigger. But as Bolt falls in deeper with their new clan, he finds Eleanor pulling further away from him. And when Uncle Charlie picks up their trail, the twins find themselves facing a peril as strange as it is terrifying, one which will forever alter the trajectory of their lives. An ode to the misfits and the marginalized, One of Us is a riotous and singularly creepy celebration of the strange and the spectacular and of family in its many forms. |
ABOUT CHERYL L. NEELY
Cheryl L. Neely is a sociology professor at Oakland Community College in Royal Oak, Michigan where she teaches courses in Sociology and Criminology. She is the author of You're Dead―So What?: Media, Police, and the Invisibility of Black Women as Victims of Homicide, which won the Gold Medal Midwest Book Award in 2016. ABOUT NO HUMAN INVOLVED
An urgent examination of the invisibility of Black women and girls as victims of targeted killings, and the lack of police intervention and media coverage When Black women and girls are targeted and murdered their cases are often categorized by police officers as “N.H.I.” – “No Humans Involved.” Dehumanized and invisible to the public eye, they are rarely seen as victims. In the United States, Black women are killed at a higher rate than any other group of women, but their victimhood is not covered by the media and their cases do not receive an adequate level of urgency. Utilizing intensive historical research of cases in cities such as Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angles, Cheryl Neely calls attention to serial cases of Black female murder victims and a lack of police action. Neely approaches each case and story with detailed care. Instead of focusing solely on the killings and the murderers, she highlights the lives of the women and girls and their communities that never stopped fighting for justice. With media neglect and police indifference, Neely argues that because law enforcement is less likely to conduct serious investigations into the disappearances and homicides of Black women, they are particularly vulnerable to become victims. Diving deep into the unseen and unheard, Neely uses personal interviews, court records, media reports, and analytical data to understand how and why Black women are disproportionately more likely to die from homicide in comparison to their white counterpoints. Sounding an urgent alarm, No Human Involved contends that it is time for Black women’s lives to matter not only to their families and communities, but especially to those commissioned to protect them. |
ABOUT ERIN A. CRAIG
ERIN A. CRAIG is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of House of Salt and Sorrows, Small Favors, and House of Roots and Ruin. She has always loved telling stories. ABOUT A LAND SO WIDE
From the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of The Thirteenth Child, comes an irresistible blend of dark fairytale and romantic fantasy set in the beautiful but brutal Canadian wilderness. Like everyone else in the settlement of Mistaken, Greer Mackenzie is trapped. Founded by an ambitious lumber merchant, the village is blessed with rich natural resources that have made its people prosperous—but at a cost. The same woods that have lined the townsfolks’ pockets harbor dangerous beasts: wolves, bears, and the Bright-Eyeds—monsters beyond description who have rained utter destruction down on nearby settlements. But Mistaken’s founders made a deal with the mysterious Benevolence: the Warding Stones that surround the town will keep the Bright-Eyeds out—and the town’s citizens in. Anyone who spends a night within Mistaken’s borders belongs to it forever. Greer, a mapmaker and eccentric dreamer, has always ached to explore the world outside, even though she knows she and her longtime love, Ellis Beaufort, will never see it. Until, on the day she and Ellis are meant to finally begin their lives together, Greer watches in horror as her beloved disappears beyond the Warding Stones, pursued by a monstrous creature. Determined to rescue Ellis, she figures out a way to defy Mistaken’s curse and begins a trek through the cold and pitiless wilderness. But there, Greer is hunted, not only by the ruthless Bright-Eyeds but by the secret truths behind Mistaken’s founding and her own origins. Playfully drawing from Scottish folklore, Erin A. Craig’s adult debut is both a deeply atmospheric and profoundly romantic exploration of freedom versus security: a stunning celebration of one woman's relentless bravery on a quest to reclaim her lost love—and seize her own future. |

ABOUT Super Sports Society: Winning Is All We Do
Pel's an all-star baseball legacy. Tommy eats, sleeps, and farts sports. The two friends will have to put their skills to the test in their first-ever travel tournament with their baseball team in the second book of this fun illustrated series told in dual POVs that's so hysterical you might just poop yourself. Perfect for fans of The Last Kids on Earth, Big Nate, and The Secret Zoo. When eleven-year-old Tommy made his hometown's baseball travel team, he thought he'd be set for life. He thought he'd be royalty. He thought he'd become a member of the Super Sports Society. And that's all kind of true . . . it will all happen, AFTER he wins his first travel tournament. Meanwhile, Tommy's best friend, Pel, is also going to his first tournament, and using his dad's old baseball glove is a punch-in-the-gut reminder that he's no longer here. Or, as Ma says, is he? Join Tommy, Pel, Diesel, Clutch, Alfredo, Goetz, and the members of the Bulldogs (wait . . . no, the TurdlesI) in their first-ever travel baseball tournament. Of course, there's tons of LOL-worthy moments, like a laser tag game gone wrong, an incident involving bunch of chili flakes on pepperoni pizza (don't try that one at home), and a rival team that's gotta go down. Hopefully. This book is the second in The Super Sports Society series by Bryan Chick and Brett Radlicki. It's humor at its finest, interwoven with lessons about life, friendship, coming-of-age, battling anxiety both on and off the field, and grief. "Equal parts baseball and potty humor with an added whiff of conflict resolution." - Kirkus, for The Super Sports Society vol. 1 |
