GLIBA is thrilled to have worked on three separate state indie bookstore crawls this year! After visiting 10 or 15 stores participants receive an enamel pin and a 10-15% discount from all participating bookstores for the year! For more info visit chilovebooks.com. Coverage on WGN | NewCity INDIANA Indiana bookstores partnered to create and produce these very cool tote bags. As well, Pete and Freddy's Pages a plenty produced an awesome Zine that features all Indiana bookstores. Congratulations to Harvey's Tales (Geneva, IL), Main Street Books (Lafayette, IN) and
Sales Rep Mark Fleeman (Fujii Associates)! All of the finalists for the 31st annual Bookstore of the Year Award have been nominated because of the positive roles they continue to play in their communities by bringing writers and readers together. I made this graphic because I wanted a digestible message about what independent bookstores have to compete against. I’ve made it available to bookstores as a downloadable poster and bag stuffer. I’ll have printed posters to give away at Spring Forum. Please feel free to share. - Larry Law, Executive Director of GLIBA Contact DOWNLOAD 8.5X11" SIGN DOWNLOAD 11X14" POSTER DOWNLOAD 2-UP BAG STUFFER Maxwell Gregory started her bookselling career at The Lake Forest Book Store, in Lake Forest, Illinois with owner Sue Boucher in 2006 and became the store manager in 2013. She served on the Indies Introduce 2020 Spring/Summer Debut Adult Author Panel. For the past four years she has been a part of both the ABRAMS Dinner Party and the Ten Speed Ambassador Program promoting and reviewing the publisher's cookbooks. In 2021, Maxwell joined A Mighty Blaze as an Author Liaison and Scheduling Producer for author and investigative reporter Hank Phillippi Ryan's weekly mystery/thriller segment, Crime Time. She currently is affiliated with Madison Street Books in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago as a virtual bookseller and consultant. She lives in the suburbs of Chicago. 2022 has been an incredible year of new challenges, growth, and community. As we end this year's holiday season stores across our region have seen increased sales as they still cope with the pandemic and return to pre-pandemic levels of in-store activity. Many have seen online sales begin to level out while in-store sales increase. In addition, many stores in 2022 have worked tirelessly to elevate underrepresented voices and battle book bans. As a sign of hope for the future, GLIBA has seen tremendous growth in BIPOC owned and alternative model bookstores opening. As well, this year GLIBA events began meeting in person again and the sense of community and vitality in our region has been transformative. The energy and enthusiasm of new booksellers was met with the gratefulness and relief of veteran stores eager to be in each other's company again. That joyous, eager, thankful, and hopeful energy is something I will never forget. I am grateful to serve the bookstores of GLIBA and I can't wait to see you all in 2023.
