What is Black Lit Weekend?Black Lit Weekend is an annual convening that brings together booksellers, authors, publishers, readers, and literary professionals in a space dedicated to celebrating, elevating, and sharing the Black bookselling experience.
Over the course of four days, attendees will experience:

• Community Building Opportunities: Connect with fellow booksellers, authors, publishers, and literary professionals.
• Curated Workshops: Leave with the resources, information, and connections to thrive.
• Placemaking: Discover Newark’s rich history and growing entrepreneurial landscape.
• New Goodies: Experience a mini-exhibit hall, join a trip to New York Friday afternoon for bookstore tours, publisher hosted activations you don't want to miss, and so much more!

Our Home for Black Lit Weekend 2025This year, our home base for Black Lit Weekend will be at Equal Space, located in the heart of Newark, at 550 Broad Street. Equal Space is a dynamic community hub that embodies Newark’s rich cultural landscape, offering the perfect space for Black Lit Weekend programming.
