The Chicagoland Bookstore Crawl returns in 2026 on Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026! Complete this form to register your bookstore’s interest in participating in the 2026 Chicagoland Bookstore Crawl. The CHIBA/GLIBA team will follow up with additional details as planning continues. There is a $50 registration fee for participating. The registration fee helps to cover the cost of printing. Deadline to register is Friday, March 6.

ANNOUNCING THE 2026 INDY INDIE BOOK CRAWL!

Indianapolis, IN— The Indy Indie Book Crawl (IIBC) is back for its third year in Indianapolis and the surrounding area March 19-22, 2026, with 36 independent bookstores and 7 literary organizations. The 2026 Indy Indie Book Crawl is generously supported by Indiana Humanities, Ross Bemis at Maywright Property Co., and Bottleworks Hotel.

New features for this crawl include nine additional participating bookstores, pop-up bookstores hosted at The Stutz, and an updated Book Crawl Bingo card packed

with activities hosted by local literary organizations. All information about the 2026 Indy Indie Book Crawl – including the participating locations – will be posted to the official Instagram page: @indyindiebookcrawl.

NAB2 launches National Black Bookstore Day: April 7th

Mark your calendars. April 7 is the inaugural National Black Bookstore Day. We’ve already secured official recognition in multiple jurisdictions — and momentum is building. We invite Black booksellers to pursue recognition in your own city and state so you can be formally acknowledged and celebrated locally. Download the toolkit below for step-by-step guidance and sample language to make the process simple.Let’s make April 7 a nationwide celebration honoring and uplifting Black-owned bookstores across the country.

PBS Bookstore Finances

Registration is open now! Bookstore Finances is designed to educate on the day to day and long term finance-related needs of an independent bookstore, considering both high level financial topics such as taxes and accounting and deep dives into financial reporting and strategy.

IPC Display Contest

IPC invites independent bookstores nationwide to participate in an in-store display contest and a social media campaign to take place throughout the month of March. Full contest guidelines are available on the sign-up page. Winners and runners-up of the display contest will be announced in Shelf Awareness.

ABA's Indie Choice Book Awards

ABA's Indies Choice Book Awards Are Back and Voting is Open Now!

The American Booksellers Association is thrilled to present the return of the independent booksellers literary prize program, the Indies Choice Book Awards! These awards celebrate the best Adult Fiction, Adult Nonfiction, Children's Picture Books, Middle Grade, Young Adult, Debut Adult and Debut Children's voted by indie booksellers. The winning titles from each category will receive $2,000. Vote here.

IPC Display Contest

IPC invites independent bookstores nationwide to participate in an in-store display contest and a social media campaign to take place throughout the month of March.

Through the Indie-to-Indie program, IPC will award $2,000 in cash prizes–including $500 to the bookstore with the winning display, and $100 to runner ups. Sign-ups will be accepted through February 27, 2026, the final day of Winter Institute. Full contest guidelines are available on the sign-up page. Winners and runners-up of the display contest will be announced in Shelf Awareness.

IPC Debuts New Bestseller List

The ABA and the Independent Publishers Caucus (IPC) are proud to announce the launch of the Independent Press Top 40, a new weekly bestseller list celebrating the most popular titles from independent publishers, as sold by independent bookstores across the country.

The Independent Press Top 40 will spotlight the top 40 fiction and nonfiction titles each week, with an emphasis on the distinctive voices that thrive in the indie publishing ecosystem. The list will be published weekly and will serve as a dynamic reflection of what's resonating with booksellers and readers in the independent book world.

PBS Profitability Class

The PBS independent study version of the Inventory Management Course is finally live! 

It has two options - self-study for $295 or certification for $395. As students will be getting one-on-one instruction from an instruction for certification, it's a great option for stores that need help but need to set their own learning schedule.

Registration goes live for the Profitability Master Class on Monday, 01/26 at 1 pm ET / 12 pm CT / 11 am MT / 10 am PT.

Friends of Fantasy Day

January 31, 2026 will be the first annual Friends of Fantasy Day! The Friends of Fantasy mission is to connect readers, authors, and bookstores through their mutual love of the fantastical and fantasy-adjacent.

Already, 40+ bookstores plan to host events including author signings, fantasy displays, book blind-dates, and general fun and whimsy. It is not too late to join the celebration and host an event of your own! Find out more at their website or fill in the interest form here!

All participating authors are welcome to join us for the bookstore tour & reception on the 15th, lunch on the 16th, and the author reception directly following the author events. PBS Profitability Class

The Professional Booksellers School is offering a master class on Profitability! Registration will open January 26th at 1pm ET/12pm CT/11am MT/10am PT.

Indie Press Month

The Independent Publisher’s Caucus (IPC) invites independent bookstores nationwide to participate in an in-store display contest and a social media campaign to take place throughout the month of March. The winner of the display contest will receive a $500 prize (no social media platform required). Top 3 store displays receive $100 in co-op marketing. First 25+ stores to post to Instagram in the month of March will receive $50 co-op marketing funds. 

Friends of Fantasy Day

January 31, 2026 will be the first annual Friends of Fantasy Day! The Friends of Fantasy mission is to connect readers, authors, and bookstores through their mutual love of the fantastical and fantasy-adjacent.

Already, 40+ bookstores plan to host events including author signings, fantasy displays, book blind-dates, and general fun and whimsy. It is not too late to join the celebration and host an event of your own! Find out more at their website or fill in the interest form here!

Norton Rep-a-Thon Next Week

Our friends from W.W. Norton are pleased to invite you to their upcoming Rep-a-thon! The indie sales team will be presenting their Summer 2026 list along with a Teaser Trailer and interviews with some of their favorite authors.

Faire's small business grant program gives select new stores $5,000 to use on Faire to stock their shelves with amazing products. It’s their way of helping you kickstart your dream shop. The need for emergency financial assistance within the book and comic community continues to grow and thanks to Penguin Random House, AdventureKEEN, and HarperCollins, the Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation launched its year-end campaign Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, with a $30,000 matching gift challenge, its largest ever.
