Edgar-winning author Steve Hamilton takes an amazing new direction in THE LOCK ARTIST. Part thriller, part heist caper, and part coming-of-age story, THE LOCK ARTIST is narrated by Michael, nicknamed “the Miracle Boy” for surviving a horrifying childhood incident that left him so traumatized that he hasn’t uttered a word in the following years. Later, as a teenager, Michael discovers that he has a unique facility with locks, a talent that makes him very valuable to a mysterious employer.
Moving across the country, joining crooks who need his safecracking services, Michael soon realizes that he can’t survive in this world for long. There’s another life, a saner one, waiting for him in Michigan, if he can figure out how to make a graceful exit from his criminal career.
Hamilton’s terrific novel crackles with the adrenalinized rush of an underworld where crimes never go as smoothly as planned, and his book takes unexpected detours as it tells of the discoveries Michael makes of a life away from heists and hoods.
